      You only need two points for a line, but, if you are doing it by hand I recommend 3 to make sure you have plotted them correctly.

    I prefer having x on the left as I was taught that way, so it was a little weird seeing your answer, but I got it right. (Seriously my old math teacher wanted things an exact way and if you didn't do it that exact way he would mark it wrong. So 2^2=x, or x=2^2, or 4=x would all be wrong but x=4 would be correct.)

      I am so sorry for that. "-( It does bother me when teachers say there is only 'one correct way' when there can be many! We do get use to seeing x=#, because, well, it's tradition I guess. I always solve answers, especially for my beginning algebra students so they look both ways. I am glad you got the answer correct and realized that the answer can be 4 = x or x = 4.

    My student and I are confused. If x and y = the quantity of tents, how can the 2nd equation be used in the system of equations? In the 2nd equation, x and y represent price. No?

      Hmm. Don't quite understand your question. x = tents sold, y = sleeping bags. x+y=items sold; 4tents + 3sleeping bags = $55. Could you re-ask your question? :-)
